Writers aren't Actually put into a Glass Box.
In the Glass Box Critique method, each member reviewing the submitted work has five (5) minutes to critique, but the submitting author cannot speak. We feel this method allows the free expressions of a wide variety of perceptions without the session becoming bogged down by having to defend or justify those perceptions.
Some Rules:
Submissions are limited to 20 pages, in Times New Roman/12 point/doubled spaced.
Critiques are encouraged to contain comments about both form and content, and offer positive as well as constructive observations. Critiques might involve spelling, grammar, and punctuation as well as successes or lack thereof in–point of view, world building, realism of dialog, showing rather than telling, authenticity of the writers voice, depth of character development, emotional connections with the reader, plot cohesiveness, conciseness, and originality.
Give us your best effort. The submission doesn’t need to be perfect, but should be proofread. Post your submission at least a week before the designated meeting. Typically three submissions are critiqued per meeting, submitters being chosen at the end of the previous meeting by consensus of the members. In order for a member to be able to submit their work, they must have critiqued other works at a minimum of three (3) meetings before being allowed to submit their own work.
We require hard work, commitment, and respect for fellow members, but we want, most of all, for this to be an enjoyable and rewarding experience.
For a First Time Member To Attend a Monthly Meeting, which are held the Second Tuesday of the Month currently over Zoom, Provide Visitor Contact Information and you will be given a link to the next Zoom Meeting, and copies of the submittals being critiqued, (you can attend without offering critiques as well). A registered member can attend up to three (3) meetings for free. To attend a fourth meeting, and to submit work for a critique, would require becoming a Full Member, after having paid annual dues of $36.
Once or twice a year we may announce an in-person meeting, usually held at the main Worcester Public Library. Contact us at info@wwritersgroup.com for more information.
